The Trans-Am .... a Classic Challenge

From Coast to Coast across America and on to Alaska

The Trans-Am Challenge

An Adventure from New York to Alaska

9th May - 12th June 2012

The Trans-Am is an exciting and challenging rally from sea to shining sea, through the spectacular sights of the ‘land of the free and the home of the brave’.

Your journey from New York, on the east coast of the USA, to the furthest flung point of Alaska in the 50th State will take you through some of the best and most spectacular scenery and roads that both the United States and Canada has to offer in the company of fellow enthusiasts.

This event is designed for both Vintage and Classic Cars from a team with over 65 international events under their belt.

Early Entrants

Father and son team Gerrit and Rutger Reinders from the Netherlands are bringing their 1963 Porsche 356C. They have organized the Mini Europe Rally many times. In 2003 they won 2nd in class on the Classic Marathon driving a Mini Cooper. In 2008 Rutger won the legendary Tulpenrallye.

We welcome another UK entry from Ian Brawn and Jan Smith who bring their well travelled 1965 Porsche 911 that has competed on the 1998 London to Cape Town and the 2001 Inca trail.

A selection of Mercedes cars were among the first entries to arrive. A 1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL will be driven by Lord Laidlaw who will be accompanied by his wife, Lady Christine. Franco Lupi and Martin Buri are bringing a 1964 Mercedes 220/300 SE which competed on the 1997 Peking to Paris. And UK entrants Roger and Sarah Lucas are to bring their 280 SL Mercedes which competed so well on our 2003 Classic Safari Rally.

Peter and Lara Livanos join us with a beautiful Bentley that successfully completed the 2007 Peking to Paris. The 6½ litre 1929 Bentley Tourer should make short work of the American highways. From Germany we welcome Gerd and Birgit Buehler in a 1936 Lagonda LG45 open Tourer. This couple are also competing in the 2010 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Also from Germany, Dr Karl Schaefer is accompanied by his wife Stephanie in a 1970 Triumph TR6 which is in pristine concours condition. Steve Hyde and his partner Janet also intend to finish the 2010 Peking and join us with their 1937 Fangio Coupe. Newcomers William and Chloe Catchmount from New Zealand join us for the first ever event in a 1968 Ford Escort 1600cc and from Canada we welcome Montgomery and June Palstone in a 1940 La Salle Coupe, as they say the route goes right past their house!

Route Options

There are two Legs to the Trans-Am Classic Challenge. Participants can sign up for either Leg as a separate event or or take on the ultimate challenge and complete the entire journey by completing both Legs.

The event flags away from New York and, after a journey through nineteen States, the first Leg finishes twenty two days later in Vancouver, BC. Alternatively you might join the event in Vancouver for the start of the second Leg that finishes eleven days later in Anchorage, Alaska >> Read more ...

With no night driving, a simple tulip road-book with the added backup of GPS waypoints, straightforward navigation and optional competitive sections this event should appeal to both Novice and experienced crews of all ages.

Eligible Vehicles

The Trans-Am Challenge has two vehicle categories... Vintageant for cars up to 1941 with classes based on engine size and a Classic Category for cars up to 1975 model types. Cars of a later date, but unchanged mechanical specification, will be considered at the organiser’s discretion.
