New Orleans - Rest Day
And all that jazz
We had country in Nashville, we’ve had the blues in Memphis and as we’re in New Orleans we’ve got jazz. The all America Musical tour is now pretty much complete.
Here, on the banks of the Mississippi there’s been plenty to see and do today from the delights of Bourbon Street through the eclectic culture and markets of the French Quarter, to a trip on the Natchez paddle steamer which weighed anchor at 11.30am for a civilised mid morning cruise.
A ride in a horse drawn carriage to and from the impressive Jackson Square was also an option which didn’t raise too much of a sweat. An important consideration in these parts.
There were plenty of choices for lunch as well with crawfish, lobster and alligator vying for top billing on the chalkboard menus.
After one week on the road there’s obviously a bit of fixing, fettling and fiddling to be done, but this rest day seems to be dedicated to kicking back and taking it all in.
As the sun set, an oyster festival with live jazz and cool beers in nearby Woldenberg Park proved the ideal way to round things off before a suitably early bedtime.
